Internship at The Oregon Zoo

Recently, I finished a 12 week internship at The Oregon Zoo in Portland. I predominantly worked in the North America section of the zoo, helping the zookeepers and veterinarians care for the black bears, gray wolves, bobcats, cougars, mountain goats, Roosevelt elk, river otter, cacomistles, beavers, bald eagles, owls, ducks, amphibians, reptiles, and fish that reside there. I was also lucky enough to help in other sections of the zoo with many other species. It was a very rewarding experience ge… Continue

Med School Is Like Building a Snowman in a Blizzard!

Med school is VERY hard. We are all exhausted from going through the entire world of biochemistry and a quarter of the human body anatomically (dissecting as we go and learning radiology and embryology as well) in three weeks. It is humbling because the sheer volume of information keeps us perpetually behind with reading, not to mention practice--it's like building a snowman in the middle of a blizzard. Our first exam next Monday covers in depth about 20 chapters of molecular biology, cell funct… Continue

3 Minutes of Fame & Many Years of Study & Service Ahead

Greetings, Friends. As I was about to sit down and start homework for the upcoming 3rd week of medical school, I thought I would procrastinate a wee bit and give you all an update as to what is going on in our lives, since we've been undercover for so long. Needless to say, this has been a very busy year so far. Those 2007 Christmas cards are STILL in a box waiting for some TLC.

I finally graduated with my degree in Biomedical Sciences. I was so happy to graduate at last--exactly 20 years from… Continue

My summer at home and abroad

I started out the summer just as I have many summers past, taking classes. I immersed myself in International Relations, a 4 week class essentially covering international politics. It was immensely interesting, and a great break from science classes. That class as well as the other class I am taking this summer will go toward my international development certification which I hope will boost me up on the list at my top medical school. The other class is Children and Youth in Global Context. I am… Continue
